Alabama head coach Nick Saban is well-known for running at a tight ship in Tuscaloosa. So it's always a bit surprising when someone jumps the ship before even getting a chance to play for him.
Taking to Twitter on Monday, 2020 athlete De'Rickey Wright announced that he would be de-committing from Alabama. He did not state if he had a new destination in mind.
"...I would also like to thank The University of Alabama and Coach Saban for BLESSING me with the opportunity to allow me to play at their school. With that being said I will announce that I am de-committing from Alabama.
247Sports rates Wright as the No. 390 overall prospect in the country. He is the No. 26 athlete in the country, and the No. 21 prospect from the state of Alabama.
The announcement from Wright comes after he made visits to Kentucky and Ole Miss over the past few weeks.
Fans on Twitter have largely been supportive of Wright's decision.
Meanwhile, some Kentucky and Tennessee fans intrigued at the prospect of being able to land him.
Losing Wright is a blow, but not a major one for Alabama. Their 2020 recruiting class is still ranked No. 2 in the nation per 247Sports.
