After weeks of speculation surrounding Antonio Alfano’s future at Alabama, the program has removed him from their online roster.
The last time Alfano practiced with the team was in early September. His absence from the Crimson Tide had many people wondering if he’d enter the NCAA transfer portal.
Alfano’s father shed light on the situation back in September.
“Antonio’s grandmother recently fell very ill and is still fighting on life support,” Frankie-Hilda Alfano wrote on Twitter. “He is very close with her. Since this illness took effect, Antonio has taken it very hard. He has not attended classes and practices.”
On Wednesday, 247Sports broke the news that Alabama removed Alfano from its online roster.
Since Alfano isn’t on Alabama’s roster anymore, it’s possible that he enters the transfer portal later this month.
It’s fair to say Alfano’s time with the Crimson Tide hasn’t gone as planned. Nick Saban had high hopes for the five-star defensive lineman coming into this fall.
Saban didn’t shy away from taking a tough stance on this situation, saying “He quit going to class, he quit coming here. We tried to encourage him, we tried to help him.”
We’ll continue to provide updates on this situation as Alabama hasn’t officially stated that Alfano is off the team yet.
