Alabama's Spring Game Had A Higher Rating Than Any NHL Playoff Game On Cable This Past Weekend

It turns out that Alabama football is pretty popular.

According to Austin Karp of SportsBusiness Daily, the Crimson Tide's spring game, which aired on ESPN, got more viewers than six of the eight NHL Playoff games this weekend. The two contests on NBC (Rangers vs. Penguins and Blue vs. Blackhawks) were the only games to get higher ratings.

There are a few caveats, of course. ESPN is somewhat of a default channel for sports fans, so a good portion of the viewership comes from that kind of thing. These numbers also say a great deal about the current popularity of hockey.

Still, it's pretty impressive. Nick Saban has a good thing going on down in Tuscaloosa.
