Earlier in the week, Nick Saban said that five-star freshman Antonio Alfano has “disappeared” from the team. On Friday, the standout defensive lineman from New Jersey entered the NCAA transfer portal.
Coming out of high school, Alfano was the No. 5 overall recruit from his class. Alabama was fortunate enough to receive his commitment over every other program in the country.
Amid the recent news of his decision to answer the transfer portal, Frankie-Hilda Alfano has shared a few updates on his son.
He also revealed why his son has missed a few practices on social media.
“Antonio’s grandmother recently fell very ill and is still fighting on life support,” Frankie-Hilda Alfano wrote. “He is very close with her. Since this illness took effect, Antonio has taken it very hard. He has not attended classes and practices.”
Even though Alfano has entered the transfer portal, his father prefers that he remains at Alabama. However, he will not interfere with his decision.
Although he’s in the transfer portal, he still can decide to remain at the University of Alabama.
My opinion is that Antonio should stay at the University of Alabama. However he’s an adult and it’s his decision.
Antonio knows that his family has & will always be there for him.

Alfano has the option to stay at Alabama or take his talents elsewhere. It’s highly likely that other programs would love to add a player with his potential.
There is currently no timetable for when Alfano will announce his decision.
