It isn’t hard to see why Darnell Washington is such a coveted recruit. The tight end is listed at over 6-foot-7, 248 pounds.
With his combination of athleticism and size, the Desert Pines (Las Vegas) star is a nightmare match-up problem. Naturally, he’s drawing attention from some of the biggest programs in the sport.
Back in May, Washington dropped his top 12 schools. His list is quite SEC heavy.
Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Florida State, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Miami, Michigan, Oregon, Penn State, and Tennessee all made the cut for the star tight end.
They aren’t locked in yet, but Darnell Washington has five schools that stand out as potential official visit spots.
Four of the five are SEC programs, while the last one is a school he refers to as “TEU.”
Washington took a ton of unofficial visits over the last year and said he now has a good idea where his five official trips will be.
“If I had to choose today, my five visits would be to Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama, Miami and LSU,” Washington said. “Things could change but that’s where it’s at today. I haven’t set up any dates yet but I plan to take all of those visits during the season so I can visit on a game weekend.”
Washington says Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Oregon, and Penn State all remain involved, and that he has no timetable set for a decision. Things are still very open.
In the 247 piece, he goes into detail on what stands out about those five programs though, from how Kirby Smart has personally recruited him, to Alabama’s ability to land tight ends in the NFL and the program’s incredible facilities.
The site’s composite rankings list Washington at No. 11 overall, and No. 1 among athletes, though he is widely expected to stick at tight end at the next level. He ranked over 60 spots ahead of any of the pure tight end recruits in the class.
