Alabama is still very much in the championship hunt.
If you've been on Facebook recently, you might have seen a post floating around your feed with the title "Alabama football Crimson Tide disqualified from national championship."
The entire post from Breakingnews365.net reads as such:
The tide will not be rolling into the national championship game. Previous years title's may also be stripped from the team.
I'm sure I don't need to tell you this, but folks, that post (which has been shared nearly 90,000 times!) is just some good ol' fashioned Fake News.
Politifact dug into the details of the blog and discovered that the site on which it was appears is a Belgian prank site run by Nicolas Gouriou.
In fact, at the bottom of the webpage there's even this disclaimer:
This website is an entertainment website, news are created by users. These are humourous news, fantasy, fictional, that should not be seriously taken or as a source of information.
The moral of the story? Don't believe everything you read on the internet—unless it comes from The Spun, of course.
