Tua Tagovailoa might not definitively be the best quarterback in the upcoming NFL Draft, but there are plenty of teams interested in drafting the Alabama signal-caller. In fact, there are two teams with very strong odds of selecting him in the draft.
Most analysts believe Joe Burrow will go first to the Cincinnati Bengals. This would then make Tagovailoa the best quarterback on the board by a pretty wide margin – albeit there are a few concerns about his injury history.
While there could eventually be a team that trades up to take Tagovailoa in the first round, oddsmakers have the Detroit Lions and Miami Dolphins as co-favorites to land the left-handed gunslinger. Both teams are picking inside the top five.
Detroit has a franchise quarterback in Matthew Stafford, but the front office could move on this offseason. As for Miami, the front office doesn’t have much at the position outside of a veteran presence in Ryan Fitzpatrick.
Here’s more on the Dolphins and Lions’ odds of drafting Tagovailoa, via ESPN:
Caesars has the Lions and Dolphins as co-favorites at -110 to land Tagovailoa, who is recovering from a hip injury he suffered in mid-November. Detroit owns the third pick in April’s NFL draft, with Miami at No. 5.
Tagovailoa has drawn comparisons to future Hall of Fame quarterback Drew Brees because of his accuracy.
During his time with the Crimson Tide, Tagovailoa threw for 7,442 yards and 87 touchdowns. Honestly, the only thing that could slow him down in college was an ankle sprain.
It’ll be very interesting to see which team drafts Tagovailoa in April.
