Down in SEC country, there is no real off-season. One Alabama fan who called into The Paul Finebaum Show on SEC Network this week proved that.
Alabama will have a new starting quarterback in 2020. Tua Tagovailoa, who was miraculous for the Crimson Tide before going down with a season-ending injury during the 2019 Mississippi State game, is off to the NFL. Mac Jones, who filled in admirably for him to end the season, is probably the favorite to start. Don't count out freshman Bryce Young, though.
The California native blew up during his senior year. 247Sports now ranks him No. 2 overall in the 2020 class, and No. 1 among quarterbacks. He's become a dominant force, and could certainly push Jones to play right away.
To say that he is, right now, way better than Tua Tagovailoa, though? That's a serious stretch. Tua is one of the more talented quarterbacks we've seen come through college in recent years. And yet, one Finebaum caller, Mike from Kentucky, doesn't even think it's a contest between Tua and Bryce, who is yet to take a snap in college.
"Bryce Young is not only better than Tua Tagovailoa, he's way better than Tua Tagovailoa," Mike said, botching the potential top-five pick's last name both times. "You know that kid played the best talent the United States had to offer? I noticed him two years ago when he defeated IMG Academy... they're a frickin' four and five-star factory. They can't even play for a state title, they're so loaded with talent. Bryce Young played 10-times the talent that Tua did in high school, and threw for over 100 more touchdowns. He is extra-terrestrial good Paul." Mike didn't stop there. He finished with a grave warning to the rest of the country, with Young joining Nick Saban's program. "Hell is coming to college football next year. He's going to be wearing crimson and white." Fair enough. We certainly will see soon enough. [
