Alabama freshman and former five-star recruit Antonio Alfano has entered the transfer portal. ESPN confirmed the news this evening.
The top player in New Jersey, Alfano was one of the highest-ranked recruits nationally in the 2019 class. According to the 247Sports Composite score, the defensive end was the No. 5 overall and the top-ranked DE prospect in the recruiting cycle.
The Crimson Tide have recruited some of the best players in the country over the years. But Alfano was one of their highest-ranked recruits in history. He ranks as the 13th highest-rated prospect to ever sign with Alabama.
Alfano’s time in Alabama was short-lived. Speculation had been growing for some time regarding a potential transfer.
On Sept. 13, Alfano’s father tweeted that his son was entering the transfer portal, but was also contemplating staying with the school.

Alfano’s name wasn’t in the transfer portal until Thursday. Between now and that initial tweet from the DE’s father, Alfano was not attending Alabama classes or practices. An official move was bound to be made eventually.
Now that schools are able to contact Alfano, there will be plenty in play for the elite prospect. He visited both Penn State and Georgia several times during his initial recruitment.
