Is Brazil The Alabama Of Soccer? Many On Twitter Comparing Brazilians Effort To Bama's In Non-Title Games

Brazil is currently losing, badly, to the Netherlands in the World Cup's third place contest. As a nation rich in championship history, how much do the Brazilians really care about a consolation match? Based on their showing today, not much (though Brazil looked horrible when it mattered in a semifinal game against Germany, too).

The we don't really care about this game because it's not the championship excuse is a common one in the college football world, one many affiliate with Alabama, a program that has lost its last two non-championship BCS bowl games (the Sugar Bowl in 2009, '14).

Many on Twitter are making that connection:

To be fair to the fans that will get criticized for making this comparison, one of Alabama's former players thinks this way, too. Kind of.

Former Crimson Tide wide receiver Julio Jones said back in June

“You see, the Sugar Bowl, when we’re there, it’s like championship or not. Sugar Bowl? Nobody cares about playing in the Sugar Bowl.”
