Alabama football fans will have the opportunity to watch three former Crimson Tide signal callers start in Week 1 of the NFL season.
Amazingly, all three of them–Mac Jones, Jalen Hurts and Tua Tagovailoa–were once on the Alabama roster at the same time back in 2018. Now, Jones is starting the season opener as a rookie against Tagovailoa, who is entering his second season.
As for Hurts, he’s also going into Year Two and is now the Eagles’ unquestioned starter. In a recent appearance on CBS Sports HQ, Hurts broke down what it means for himself and his fellow former ‘Bama quarterbacks to all have these opportunities.
“It’ll be exciting, it’ll be fun to watch,” Hurts said. “It’s kind of crazy looking back — there goes the picture right there — looking back and looking at how far we’ve come. So, it’s great to see all of us having the opportunities that we have now, and I hope and pray, we all take advantage of them. It’s what we all worked for, so it’s fun to see. It’s a great reputation at a university.”
The picture Hurts is referring to is one that has gone viral over the years. It is of him, Hurts and Tagovailoa in the Alabama locker room after a game in 2018.
Alabama had two quarterbacks in its 2017 recruiting class: Tua Tagovailoa and Mac Jones. Both ended up being first-round picks, and they will now face off in Week 1 of the NFL season.
