John Petty, a four-star shooting guard out of Huntsville, AL, has down to two final teams: Alabama and Kentucky.
He tells AL.com that with this decision to trim his list to two, "most of the pressure is really gone" from his recruitment, and he should be ready to make a decision next month. He originally planned to make a commitment in December.
247Sports' 2017 rankings have Petty at No. 31 in the class, No. 5 among shooting guards, and No. 2 in the state of Alabama.
Alabama head coach Avery Johnson has done a nice job of recruiting to the Crimson Tide since taking over the program ahead of last season. He already has three commits in the 2017 class: four-star power forward Alex Reese, three-star shooting guard Herb Jones, and three-star center Galin Smith.
Kentucky, one of the truly elite basketball recruiting powers in the nation, is yet to receive its first commitment in the class of 2017. We don't expect that to last long.
Keeping John Petty in-state would be a coup for Johnson, but it may be tough for a top recruit to spurn Kentucky. We'll find out where Petty will be playing his college ball very soon.
