JuCo Linebacker Commits To Alabama, Rated 4 Stars By Recruiting Site The Next Day

Do players that commit to Alabama football really get extra consideration from the recruiting services? I'm not sure that is true, but the last few days in the recruitment of Dodge City C.C. linebacker Gary Johnson have been quite interesting. On Sunday, Johnson committed to the Crimson Tide.

Today, just one day later, Johnson was given a four-star rating by 247Sports. Before his Alabama commitment, he was not rated.

Of course, this doesn't necessarily mean that the Alabama commitment is the reason for the rating. It is also possible that his commitment led 247 to do an evaluation, which would have led to a four-star rating, even if he had not given a verbal to the Tide. Johnson is also a four-star according to Scout. He has not yet been rated by Rivals or ESPN.

Either way, Alabama fans should be excited, not by the four-stars, but the fact that Nick Saban landed a linebacker that he liked enough to give a scholarship. His stamp of approval means more than just about anyone's in the football world.
