Kirk Herbstreit On How Alabama Could Sneak Into College Football Playoff
On Tuesday night, the second College Football Playoff rankings of the 2019 season were released.
After an active weekend of college football action, there was plenty of turnover within the rankings. Two top-four teams dropped from the rankings after losing their first games of the season - one of which was Alabama.
The Crimson Tide have never failed to make the playoff, but they're on the outside looking in right now.
After the rankings were released, ESPN college football analyst Kirk Herbstreit revealed how Alabama could sneak back into the race.
Here's what he had to say, via 247Sports:
"We’re just trying to figure out who eventually would be that fourth team. Alabama’s case would be, you can’t look at resume and you can’t necessarily look at a big marquee win. You’d have to just say, 'You’ve got Tua and those receivers and you’re better than every team you’ve played.' That’s how they won it two years ago and that would be the only leg they have to stand on."
Despite the possibility existing for the Tide, Herbstreit thinks it's a long-shot for Nick Saban's team to make the playoff this season. It all depends on what happens in other conference title games.
Herbie thinks Alabama fans need to be "wary" of the Pac-12 title game. Either a one-loss Oregon or a one-loss Utah could jump over Alabama in the final rankings with a conference title in hand.
