ESPN Writer: Alabama OC Lane Kiffin Will Be Candidate For Auburn Job
Lane Kiffin Auburn job speculation has begun, at least from one ESPN.com writer.
Yesterday, ESPN released its bold SEC predictions for the 2016 season. All of the prognostications go slightly out on a limb --that's why they're bold predictions, after all --but one involving Lane Kiffin and Auburn is sure to catch the attention of every Alabama resident.
ESPN.com's Alex Scarborough predicts another strong offensive season for the Crimson Tide, led by coordinator Lane Kiffin. Then, he foresees Kiffin becoming a candidate for the head coaching job at Auburn, 'Bama's biggest rival.
This will be Lane Kiffin's last season at Alabama. After producing yet another 3,000-yard passer and helping the Crimson Tide to yet another SEC championship, the head coaching offers will come rolling in and he'll emerge as a candidate at -- wait for it -- Auburn.
If this were to happen, it would certainly set the state of Alabama on its ear. It would first mean Gus Malzahn would be out at Auburn, which isn't that far-fetched if the Tigers falter again this season. But plucking Kiffin away from the Tide? That would be noteworthy.
If Kiffin does get another collegiate head coaching gig, he had better hope the third time is the charm. He flamed out spectacularly at Tennessee and USC, though he has been a coup for Alabama in his two seasons as OC. It doesn't get much better than Kiffin's game plan and play-calling in the College Football Playoff national title game last year.
