The future of the quarterback position has been the major story line surrounding Alabama football this off-season. That isn't changing any time soon after the interview Jalen Hurts' father had with Bleacher Report.

In a piece with Bleacher Report's Matt Hayes, Hurts' father Averion says his son would be "the biggest free agent in college football history" if he doesn't win the starting job in Tuscaloosa. This clearly implies a transfer if the rising junior is beaten out by Tua Tagovailoa.

While Hurts' father may have hinted at a transfer, Nick Saban was less revealing when he spoke with the media today. Saban touched on his meeting with Averion Hurts, which occurred following a weekend scrimmage.

Saban described both he and Hurts' father as "upbeat."

Obviously, Saban wants to keep Hurts around as long as possible, even if he doesn't win the starting jon.

Even if Hurts is the backup, he'd be the most experienced one in college football, and Saban could find other ways to utilize him on offense. However, one has to assume the former prized recruit wants to start.

Expect a decision on this to drag out for a while, especially with Tagovailoa recovering from a hand injury suffered during spring ball.

Alabama will open its 2018 season against Louisville on Sept. 1.
