Take notes, aspiring college coaches. Nick Saban has revealed his secret formula for success.
During an appearance on ESPN's First Take on Thursday morning, Saban revealed the two things he prioritizes to have continued success.
The first is obviously recruiting. The second is development. Saban has shaped his staff to excel in both departments.
“The two things that are most important are how do you bring players to your team, and then the second part of that is how do you develop them,” said Saban, as transcribed by On3. “So, we’ve had some great coaches here to develop them. We’ve had some very good people to recruit them. And we have a program that really promotes guys having more success in life because they were involved in the program. Whether it’s personal development, academic success, and how they develop as football players.
“So, there’s a lot of value in that. That’s what we try to create for our players, that’s why we get good players and we’ve had really good people to develop them.”
With that being said, it's easier said than done.
Saban has a tireless work ethic. He's also adapted his ways to fit the current changing landscape of college football.
Many have tried to follow Saban's example. Few have succeeded as the highest level. After all, he's a legend for a reason.
