Alabama can probably put up a serious fight for any top quarterback recruit that it really wants. For Paul Tyson, great grandson of 'Bama legend Paul "Bear" Bryant, it seems inevitable.
Tyson, who plays at Alabama's Hewitt-Trussville High School, is emerging as a potential top quarterback recruit in the 2019 class. He has plenty of the recruiting cycle to go, but he just had his first one-on-one conversation with head coach Nick Saban at Alabama's junior day.
“It was awesome. A great experience,” he said. “Getting to see the campus and weight room and everything about it. Got to meet Coach (Nick) Saban one-on-one. Got to see all the coaches, Coach (Brent) Key, the new coach, Coach (Brian) Daboll, it was fun.”
Tyson is yet to receive an offer from the Crimson Tide, and does say that he will not automatically choose the program if he does get one, just because of his family history. Also of interest: the header image of his Twitter account is from a visit to Clemson, which just beat Alabama for the national championship.
"Some people think I’m automatically going to Alabama. That’s not completely true. I’m just starting the recruiting process and it’s awesome. I’m loving it. People definitely think it’s pretty cool who my great-grandfather is, and often ask me questions about him. It’s a great honor.”
If that offer does come through though, it will be a total upset if Paul Tyson chooses any other program besides 'Bama.
