Tua Tagovailoa has left Tuscaloosa, but the Alabama Crimson Tide may have already found his successor in five-star freshman Bryce Young. He was the No. 2 prospect in the nation in the Class of 2020, and should find himself in contention for the starting job soon enough. Heading into spring camp with the Crimson Tide, Young now has his jersey number.
According to BamaOnLine, Young will wear No. 9 for Alabama heading into camp. It’s the same jersey number he had at Mater Dei High School.
Alabama wide receiver Xavier Williams wore the number in 2019. Per the report, Williams will change his number to another.
The jersey has some history to it as well. The No. 9 was worn by wide receiver Amari Cooper, who went on to become the team’s all-time leading receiver.

Young will have his work cut out for him – and not just in beating out Mac Jones and Taulia Tagovailoa for the job.
Tua Tagovailoa led Alabama to a national title win, an SEC title win, and lost just two games as a starter.
Suffice it to say, the pressure will be on Young to succeed quickly.
Will Bryce Young be able to match or even exceed Tua’s accomplishments at Alabama?
