Report: David Cornwell "Could" End Up Winning Alabama QB Starting Job

With former starting quarterback Blake Sims using up the final year of his collegiate eligibility this past season, most Alabama fans assumed that Jacob Coker, who transferred in from Florida State ahead of the 2014 campaign, would be given the starting nod in 2015. That may not be the case, however. ESPN's Chris Low is reporting that there is a "genuine feeling" at Alabama that redshirt freshman David Cornwell could actually win the starting job.

This lines up with an April report from the Montgomery Advertiser, which suggested that Cornwell was actually taking snaps with what appeared to be Alabama's first team.

Obviously, nothing is set in stone here - Alabama's first game isn't until early September, meaning that we've still got four months for players to compete for starting jobs. But it is becoming clear that Coker, who has been stuck in backup roles for four years, may not be a lock to land a starting gig in his collegiate career.
