Last week, Tennessee quarterback Brian Maurer suffered a concussion against Mississippi State. His bad luck with injuries continued this weekend as he took yet another shot to the head.

Maurer replaced Jarrett Guarantano earlier this season at quarterback. Coming into this Saturday, the freshman had 364 passing yards, two touchdowns and four interceptions.

While the Volunteers are holding their own against the Alabama Crimson Tide in Tuscaloosa, the offense may have to compete without Maurer for the rest of the game.

During the first quarter of tonight's SEC showdown, Maurer took a massive shot from Alabama linebacker Shane Lee while completing a pass to Jauan Jennings.

Once again, the Tennessee quarterback took a direct hit to the head.

Here is the play that knocked Maurer out of the game:

Lee was initially called for targeting, but the officials reversed the decision.

Maurer entered the injury tent immediately after this play. Shortly after, the medical staff assisted him to the locker room.

Considering the fact that Maurer has suffered a head injury in back-to-back games, the Volunteers could decide to sit out their quarterback for precautionary reasons.

For now, it'll be on Guarantano to keep Tennessee within striking distance of Alabama.

Alabama currently leads 14-10 over Tennessee in the second quarter. The game is being broadcast on ESPN.
