Top 4-Star Safety Prospect Announces Commitment

DeMarcco Hellams, one of the top defensive back recruits in the country, is off the board. Hellams committed to Alabama this evening.

Hellams. who plays for Hyattsville (Md.) DeMatha Catholic, is ranked fourth in the 2019 class at the safety position. This rating comes from 247Sports' Composite Rankings.

He is also the second-rated player in Maryland and 92nd-overall prospect nationally.

Hellams chose the Crimson Tide over offers from Clemson, Nebraska, USC, Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Penn State and more.

Alabama has held the No. 1 spot in the class of 2019 team rankings for some time. Thirteen of the Tide's 15 commits are four-star prospects, with one five-star and one three-star mixed in. You can view the full class below.
