At this point in the year, we know who college football’s true contenders are. Ohio State is one of them, as is Alabama, Notre Dame and Clemson. If a team other than those four wins the national championship, it’ll be a surprise. But which of those four teams is the best?
Meyer thinks the Alabama Crimson Tide is the best team and most complete team in the nation. Can you blame him? The Tide don’t really have a weakness. They’re balanced on offense, have no true defensive weakness and are even improved on special teams, compared to prior years.
This is starting to look like the Alabama teams of old, per Meyer. Right now, Alabama is the best team in college football.
“To me, in my opinion, because of the multitude of ways that they can score points and how they love to outhit you on defense — this is the most dominant team in college football,” Meyer said of Alabama, via 247Sports. “. . . When you talk about the ‘look’ test — offense, defense, kicking game — they are the best team in America,” Meyer said. “When you see the defensive staff after giving up a ton of yards to Ole Miss — they’re number one in America in total defense. That looks to me like the Alabama defense of old, and they have the best wins of any team in America.”
You won’t find Urban Meyer saying any team’s better than Ohio State very often. He’s right, though.
