The Alabama Crimson Tide entered Media Day today as if they were returning from fighting a 20-year war. It was strange.
Media Day for the 2017 College Football Playoff national championship is today in Tampa, Florida. Pretty standard stuff. What wasn’t so standard though, was Alabama’s entrance. It’s…odd.

Weird, right? ESPN’s Arash Markazi is spot on comparing it to the Olympic opening ceremony. It has that same sort of somber seriousness that you’d expect from, I don’t know, a Clint Eastwood movie or something. Problem is that vibe feels just a bit out of place here. The slow march of the players combined with the self-serious music is comically overdone. It’s just college football, after all! Also, what the heck was up with the signs? I’m not sure who was in charge of the theatrics, but they should probably change it up for next year, when the Crimson Tide inevitably make the national title game once again.
