For the longest time it seemed that Minnesota was a lock for the Big Ten Championship Game. But just one week after their huge upset win over Penn State, they lost to Iowa and then lost their hold on the Big Ten West in a regular season finale loss to Wisconsin.
Auburn has one of the most impressive résumé’s in the country, but became national heroes when they knocked off Alabama in the Iron Bowl to end the Crimson Tide’s national title dreams.
This will be Minnesota’s first Outback Bowl appearance, and Auburn’s fifth. It will also be the second Outback Bowl appearance for Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn, who led the Tigers there in a losing effort against Wisconsin in 2015.
The game will be played at 1:00 p.m. EST and will air on ESPN.
