Auburn's College Football Playoff Dreams Shattered After Loss To Georgia

Auburn lost to Georgia.

Auburn fell to Georgia on Saturday erasing all hopes for a spot in the College Football Playoff.

Auburn was a long-shot to get into the College Football Playoff, but if the Tigers could run the table, knock off Alabama in the Iron Bowl and win the SEC Championship it could've happened.

That scenario is no longer possible, as the Tigers fell to Georgia 13-7 on Saturday. Auburn is now 7-3 on the year and 5-2 in the SEC. With the loss, likely the only SEC team with a chance to make the Playoff is Alabama. Alabama clinched the SEC West with the Auburn loss.

Auburn's offense was nearly non existent against the Bulldogs as the Tigers had just 164 yards on the day. Sean White went just 6-for-20 through the air for 27 yards and an interception. It's tough to win a football game against anyone, let alone Georgia, with just 37 total passing yards as the Tigers had on Saturday.

White also threw a pick six in the third quarter which tied the game at seven a piece. Rodrigo Blankenship then added two field goals from then on out to give the Bulldogs their 13-7 edge.

Georgia, on the other hand, found success on offense, putting up 343 yards on the Tigers' defense including 208 yards through the air.

The Tigers, who were among the best running teams in the nation entering the contest, had just 127 yards on the ground with Kerryon Johnson leading the charge with 99 yards. He was also responsible for the Tigers' lone score of the day which came in the first quarter. Auburn's top running back Kamryn Pettway did not play against the Bulldogs due to injury.

Georgia improved to 6-4 on the year with the big win over Auburn. The Tigers fall to 7-3, and 5-2 in the SEC.
