One of the most stunning coaching rumors to pop up on Monday was a report that Auburn coach Gus Malzahn's job may not be as safe as once thought.

Football Scoop added another interesting report - that people "representing" Auburn met with former Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops a few weeks back.

Well, Stoops has already addressed the rumors. When asked directly by USA Today reporter George Schroeder if there had been any contact between him and Auburn, Stoops emphatically replied that there was no truth to the report at all.

“I haven’t talked to anybody from Auburn," Stoops said on Monday. "I haven’t met with anybody from Auburn nor am I set to talk to anybody. It’s just foolish speculation that is just thrown out there that has no basis to it."

Stoops called the report "ridiculous" and referred to the people reporting on the rumors as "completely clueless."

The Auburn Tigers are coming off a 7-5 season that left many in the fan base disappointed.

Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn has had six winning seasons since taking over in 2013.

Stoops has been out of football since leaving Oklahoma following the 2016 season.
