Back on June 3, Auburn landed four-star point guard Daeshun Ruffin. Now, just weeks later, he has backed out of his pledge.

Ruffin, a 5-foot-9 guard out of Mississippi, drew natural comparisons to Auburn star Jared Harper. As a junior, the explosive but diminutive Tigers star led the team to the Final Four. He's now off to start his professional career.

Ruffin seemed like a good candidate for Bruce Pearl's system in a similar role. Instead, he very well may play his college ball elsewhere.

Daeshun Ruffin announced his decommitment from Auburn via Instagram on Friday evening.

He says he will still consider the Tigers, but is opening up his optins.

Ruffin is ranked No. 74 overall in the 2021 recruiting class, per 247Sports' composite rankings. He's the No. 7 point guard, and the top player in the state of Mississippi.

Per the site, he also holds offers from Alabama, Houston, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, and Southern Miss. There's still a ton of time left in his recruitment though, so he'll likely receive other major offers in the interim.

Ruffin was the only player committed in the 2021 class for Auburn, before his decision. The team only has one 2020 player committed thus far. Five players have signed for the 2019 class, which ranks 20th in the country.
