Gus Malzahn is a Waffle House fanatic, as so many are down in SEC country. A fun burgeoning tradition is for him to share his order after he beats Alabama in the Iron Bowl.
In 2017, he went with a ham and cheese omelet, scattered, smothered, and chunked hash browns, and bacon. That seems to be a pretty standard framework for a celebratory late night Waffle House Malzahn meal.
He is changing things up a bit after tonight’s dramatic 48-45 win over Nick Saban and company. He’s going with extra bacon and an extra waffle.
Malzahn’s really treating himself after this one, and he deserves it after a game as crazy as tonight’s.
Auburn HC Gus Malzahn’s Waffle House order tonight:
– Ham and cheese omelet
– Smothered and chunked hash browns
– “I’m gonna get extra bacon, and I’m gonna get an extra waffle, so get that ready.”

The two sides traded blows for four quarters. Neither team led by more than a touchdown at any point during the game.
Ultimately, Alabama’s decade-long kicking woes reared their ugly head once again.
Down 48-45, Crimson Tide kicker Joseph Bulovas had what should have been a 30-yard chip shot, but knocked it off the upright with two minutes left to go in the game. On Auburn’s possession, Alabama managed to get to a 4th-and-4, but a substitution penalty on Alabama gave Auburn the first down.
Gus Malzahn essentially ran a trick lineup with his punter lined up at receiver, to throw off the Crimson Tide and lead to the penalty. Saban called the move “unfair” after the game, but it was within the rules, and pretty brilliant by the Auburn head coach at the end of the day.
He’s definitely earned that extra large plate of hash browns tonight.
