Auburn shocked the college football world on Saturday night with its upset victory over Alabama. The Tigers shut the door on the Crimson Tide’s College Football Playoff hopes, coming away with a huge rivalry win.
ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit took to Twitter to offer his reaction to Auburn’s big win over Alabama. He also outlined which teams benefit from the Crimson Tide’s loss.
Here’s what Herbstreit had to say following Auburn’s win:
Congratulations @AuburnFootball on a huge win!! That was a battle. Bama losing confirms @Utah_Football in the drivers seat for the 4th spot I’d they win their last 2 games. @OU_Football still in the mix as well playing @CowboyFB tonight & Baylor next week-Auburn finishes 9-3

Whenever Herbstreit takes to Twitter to offer praise, you know it’s significant. Auburn earned tonight’s victory over the Crimson Tide. Quarterback Bo Nix certainly played one the best games of his young career.
As for the current outlook on the College Football Playoff, Utah now has the direct path. The Utes are currently sixth in the CFP rankings. Alabama is currently ranked fifth, meaning the Utes will surely move up one spot as Alabama will now move down.
Georgia is No. 4, but the Bulldogs still have a date with the LSU Tigers. Given that LSU’s expected to emerge victorious in that match-up, Utah would then have the best chance to be selected as the No. 4 seed.
It’ll be interesting to see how the rest of the season, including conference championships, plays out. If Auburn’s victory over Alabama is any type of foreshadowing, college football’s craziness is just getting started.
