With the regular season officially in the books, ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit had an important message to share for Auburn fans.
The Tigers are coming off a statement win over the Alabama Crimson Tide in the Iron Bowl. Not only was it the program’s biggest win of the year, it essentially knocked its rival out of playoff contention.
Despite all the noise surrounding Gus Malzahn’s job security at Auburn, Herbstreit believes this win proves he’s the right man for the job.
Herbstreit spoke about Malzahn on The College Football Podcast With Herbie & Pollack.
“I love to celebrate teams like Auburn – which went 9-3 and fans were ready to fire Gus Malzahn after losing to Georgia,” Herbstreit said on the podcast. “Now, they want to give him a raise after beating Alabama. Imagine living in that world as a head coach. He just blocks it all out, keeps coaching, keeps believing in his kids, keeps fighting and chopping wood despite some setbacks. I think Auburn’s fan base should be celebrating Gus Malzahn and be very thankful that he’s their head coach.”

Auburn will have the chance to win 10 games this season, which would be the second time in three years.
It’d be tough to envision the Tigers moving on from Malzahn as their head coach, especially after defeating the Crimson Tide. In the event he does reach the open market, there will be a plethora of suitors lining up for him.
