Hailing from the famed IMG Academy is four-star 2021 defensive back/athlete Kamar Wilcoxson. He's been committed to the Florida Gators since last summer, but appears to be ready to give other programs a look.
Taking to Twitter on Thursday, Wilcoxson announced that he is decommitting from Florida and re-opening his recruiting. Wilcoxson committed to Florida back in July, and made two more visits to Gainesville in the past two months.
"After long thoughts & many prayers, I've decided that it's in my best interest to decommit from The University of Florida & re-open my recruitment 100%," Wilcoxson wrote. "Thank you Coach Mullen, Gray, Grantham & the rest of the staff for everything."
247Sports rates Wilcoxson as the No. 263 overall prospect in the Class of 2021. He is the No. 16 athlete in the nation, and the No. 38 prospect from the state of Florida.
In an interview with 247Sports, Wilcoxson said that while he likes "everything Florida has to offer," he felt it just wasn't the best fit upon reflection.
“Honestly I like everything Florida has to offer," Wilcoxson told 247Sports on Thursday. "I’ve been thinking a lot about things and it’s just not the place for me."
Though Wilcoxson is fully re-opening his recruitment, the Ohio State Buckeyes appear to be the early leaders.
Wilcoxson spoke glowingly about Ohio State and top recruiter Kerry Coombs in the 247Sports interview. He already has an official visit to Columbus slated for June.
“Coach Coombs is my guy,” Wilcoxson said. “The first time we talked I could tell we were going to get along well. He pushes his guys to be the best. He’s coached guys at the highest level and now he’s back to college.”
247Sports' Crystal Ball Predictions are giving him a 67-percent chance of going to Columbus. He also has a 17-percent chance of going to Georgia Tech.
Will Kamar Wilcoxson be an Ohio State Buckeye, or is there another team that could land his commitment?
