The checkered career of four-star Florida freshman Justin Watkins is over in Gainesville before it started. Watkins announced today he will transfer.

Florida recently suspended Watkins after his second arrest in the last three months. Watkins is facing four charges related to his most recent arrest, including battery, kidnapping, and battery by strangulation.

According to the Gainesville Sun, Watkins is accused of striking his 18-year old girlfriend "with an open and closed fist on both sides of her head and on her shoulders while holding her down on a dorm room bed."

She also said Watkins choked her, according to the police report.

Watkins' transfer announcement, which he made via Twitter, seems curious in its wording, considering the legal issues he faces.

A top-100 recruit, Watkins was the No. 16 wide receiver and No. 20 overall player in Florida in the class of 2018, according to 247Sports' Composite Rankings.

He played both wide receiver and defensive back in high school and was listed as an athlete on Florida's roster before his suspension.
