National Signing Day always delivers some viral moments. Yesterday's most notable came with four-star wide receiver Jacob Copeland and his mother.
Jacob Copeland was one of the big recruits left on the board yesterday. Many top players took advantage of the early signing period in December.
He is a four-star wide receiver out of Pensacola, Florida. 247Sports ranks him the No. 69 player in the country, and the No. 12 guy at his position.
He's also the No. 14 player in the Sunshine State. With yesterday's decision, he is the highest-ranked player in Florida's 2018 class.
Copeland entered the day with Alabama, Florida, and Tennessee as finalists. He made the decision live on ESPN2.
His mother, who sat next to him during the event, notably wore an Alabama sweatshirt and Tennessee hat to the event. When Copeland made his choice, she walked off the stage, and passed in front of the camera.
When asked about his mother's action, he said that he had an answer that certainly warmed him to Florida fans: "I can't go with my mom. I gotta go with my heart." That didn't stop a number of people to tweet very angrily about his mother's actions.
A number of fans, and especially fellow athletes, ripped his mom for walking away. Here is video, if you missed it.
What many didn't see was what happened after. His mom returned shortly after the interview, and gave her son a big hug.
Copeland clearly caught wind of the response to his mother's walk-off. Last night, a few hours after he signed with UF, he tweeted about it, and said he thought it was "hilarious."
If that was the intention, she certainly accomplished it. Either way, it is good to see that things appear to be fine between Copeland and his mother. Hopefully she picks up some Florida garb to support her son with over the next four years.
