Tragic news struck the Florida Gators on Tuesday as former linebacker Neiron Ball passed away at the age of 27. His sister shared the information on Facebook this morning.
Ball passed away due to complications resulting from brain arteriovenous malformation (AVM), which is a condition that he’s dealt with since 2011. Despite dealing with this condition, the former Gator managed to continue his football career for several years.
After putting together a strong career at Florida, the Oakland Raiders selected Ball in the fifth round of the 2015 NFL Draft. Unfortunately, the talented linebacker dealt with more medical issues when he was hospitalized and in a medically induced coma last year.
Former coaches, friends and teammates have shared their fondness memories of Ball on social media. It’s clear that he impacted his peers in more ways than just one.
Florida’s Twitter account released a statement about this devastating news.
“Rest in Peace, Neiron. You’ll be forever remembered and always missed,” Florida’s official Twitter account wrote. “Our thoughts and prayers are with your family during this difficult time.”
