Report: Billy Donovan Formally Speaking With Oklahoma City Thunder About Coaching Vacancy

Since the NBA's Oklahoma City Thunder fired head coach Scott Brooks one week ago, Florida head coach Billy Donovan has been linked to the open position. Earlier this month, one of Donovan's former players, Washington Wizards guard Bradley Beal, said he believes the 49-year-old will make the leap to the professional ranks.

Overnight, ESPN NBA reporter Marc Stein broke news that Donovan and the Thunder had begun formal conversations about the coaching vacancy.

Sources told ESPN.com that Donovan and Thunder general manager Sam Presti have opened a dialogue about the position, which became available a week ago after the dismissal of Scott Brooks…

Donovan is the first known candidate to talk with the Thunder about the job. It was not immediately clear how many other candidates, if any, Presti plans to sit down with.

Nothing is a done deal here yet, but this certainly bears watching. If Donovan does end up in OKC, expect some big coaching dominoes to fall in the college game as a chain reaction to his move.
