Report: Florida Is Renaming Its Field After Steve Spurrier

Florida's football facility is officially named Ben Hill Griffin Stadium at Florida Field - at least for now. Thursday, the school will reportedly announce that the name of the field will be changing in honor of former player and coach Steve Spurrier. Spurrier, who won the Heisman Trophy at quarterback for the program back in 1966, later coached the team from 1990-2001. He coached the Gators to a national title in 1996.

Spurrier later coached the Washington Redskins and then the South Carolina Gamecocks. He had a 122-27-1 record with the Gators and an 86-49 mark with the Gamecocks. The name of the facility will become Steve Spurrier/Florida Field at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. There's no word if the school plans to eventually drop the Florida Field portion.

Despite Spurrier eventually coaching a rival, it was clear he always cherished his time in Gainesville. Expect fans to applaud the move.
