Report: Jim McElwain Is Hiring Mississippi State DC Geoff Collins To The Same Position At Florida

Update: Florida has officially announced that it has hired Mississippi State defensive coordinator Geoff Collins to the same position. Gators head coach Jim McElwain released a statement regarding Collins' hiring.

Earlier: Jim McElwain has hired his defensive coordinator. 

The Florida coach has poached someone from one of his SEC colleagues, as the Gators' new leader is bringing Mississippi State defensive coordinator Geoff Collins to Gainesville, Fla., according to multiple reports. Collins, 43, has been in his position at Mississippi State for two seasons. He was previously the Bulldogs' linebackers coach for two seasons, the defensive coordinator at Florida International in 2010 and the linebackers coach/recruiting coordinator at UCF from 2008-09.

This season, Collins' Mississippi State defense ranked No. 10 in the country in points allowed (19.4), helping the Bulldogs rise to a No. 1 spot in the College Football Playoff rankings for a couple weeks before ending the season 10-2. Collins is also known for his recruiting prowess.
