No. 1 Syracuse lost to unranked Boston College tonight. No. 2 Florida almost joined the Orange in the same hour.
Auburn had a chance to knock off the red-hot Gators but made two crucial mistakes down the stretch of the contest. After Chris Denson missed a free throw that would have given the Tigers the lead, Asauhn Dixon-Tatum fouled Patric Young with 20 seconds to play, despite AU not actually trailing. After Young made both from the line, Allen Payne inbounded the ball directly out of bounds. Auburn went from having a chance at the lead to losing the game in two seconds of game time.
Michael Shamburger of The Big Lead caught the end of the debacle.
In the end, Florida hung on yet again. If Syracuse is able to defeat No. 5 Duke on Saturday, it'll be an interesting debate for which team should be ranked No. 1.
