Gibbs has reportedly been away from the team for some time.

Freshman defensive back Deangelo Gibbs, a top signee in Georgia's 2017 class, is reportedly away from the team with a "medical issue," according to Jake Row of Dawgs247. The nature or seriousness of the issue remains unknown.

Gibbs did not travel with the team to Georgia Tech or the SEC Championship game, although it's unclear if those absences are related.

Gibbs was the No. 49 overall recruit in the 2017 class, and the No. 4 ranked safety, per 247 Sports. He enrolled early for the Bulldogs and went through spring practice with the team. He was expected to compete for the starting job at the nickel, and while he showed flashes of brilliance early in the season, his role slowly dwindled.

The freshman played in six games this season, tallying three tackles.

Georgia is scheduled to take on Oklahoma in its CFP matchup on Jan. 1, and it remains to be seen if Gibbs will have a role in the game.
