Herschel Walker Calls Todd Gurley 'The Best Running Back In College Football'

One of the most entertaining debates in college football this is year the debate about who is the best running back in the sport. Coming into the year, multiple guys had claims to that title, like Wisconsin's Melvin Gordon and Alabama's Derrick Henry and T.J. Yeldon. However, after week one, one player has a firm grasp on that title: Georgia running back Todd Gurley.

During the Bulldogs' 45-21 win over Clemson on Saturday, Gurley ran for 198 yards and three touchdowns on 15 carries. He also returned a kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown. The performance led legendary Georgia running back Herschel Walker -- who was in attendance on Saturday -- to proclaim to Sports Illustrated that Gurley owns the title of the sports' top back.

“Every time he touches the ball,” Walker said, “you’re looking for something to happen.”

Walker didn’t get a chance to talk with Gurley after Georgia’s 45-21 victory overClemson on Saturday, a game in which he set a school-record with 293 all-purpose yards and scored four touchdowns. But Walker said Gurley knows “how special he is to me.”

“Todd is the best running back in college football,” Walker said. “Right now, you can’t argue that point.”

While there's still a lot of football left to be played this season, Gurley certainly had the best opening week among all running backs. We can't wait to see if he's able to one-up his game against Clemson when the Bulldogs travel to South Carolina on Sept. 13.
