There are few bigger recruits in the 2021 class than James Williams. The Western High School safety is the top player at his position in the class.

247Sports' composite rankings have him as a five-star player. He's the No. 5 overall player in the country. He's also the top recruit in Florida, perhaps the strongest state for high school football in the country.

In March 2018, Williams committed to the Miami Hurricanes. Just over a year later, backed off of that commitment. The U was still involved in his recruitment as September. He announced a top five schools list, including the Hurricanes, as well as Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, and Georgia. He's cut things down a bit further now, with less than a year left before his class' National Signing Day.

This evening, he cut things down to three. It probably doesn't surprise, but that group might contain the three best recruiting programs in the country. Alabama, Clemson, and Georgia are his finalists move forward. From Williams:

If there is an early favorite here, it may be the Bulldogs. Four recruiting analysts have submitted predictions for where James Williams will commit. All chose the Bulldogs.

The three schools currently occupy the top three spots in the 2020 247Sports composite rankings. Georgia sits at No. 1, followed by Alabama and Clemson. All three are grouped pretty tight, though.

It is unclear when he'll make a decision, but this should continue to be a very heated recruitment.
