Kirby Smart hasn't completed his 2019 Georgia football staff yet, but he added one big piece this weekend, and it could have an impact of four-star 2019 cornerback Kaiir Elam.

Smart announced the hire of Charlton Warren to coach defensive backs over the weekend.

Warren joins the Dawgs staff after a year in Florida. He previously coached at Tennessee, Nebraska, and North Carolina.

Florida has been considered the favorite to land Elam, a star at North Palm Beach.

The blue-chip recruit is ranked No. 49 in the class of 2019. He's the No. 7 cornerback and No. 8 player in Florida.

The Charlton Warren hire could tip the balance of the Kaiir Elam recruitment in the build-up to National Signing Day.

Florida is still considered a pretty heavy favorite based on the raw numbers at 247's crystal ball, with 67-percent of predictions.

However, as the site notes, the momentum is all towards Georgia. Now that his position coach-to-be is in Athens, it makes a huge difference.

At the time of publishing, the Gators are still in the lead with 67 percent of the total picks versus just 27 percent for the Bulldogs. However, the last pick in favor of Florida came back in December. Elam, who took his official visit to Georgia on Saturday, is rated as the nation's No. 49 overall player in the 247Sports Composite. The 6-foot-1 defender is also ranked as the No. 7 cornerback and No. 8 overall prospect in the state of Florida.

Georgia currently has the No. 2 class in the country, behind only Alabama.

Florida's class comes in at No. 11, and fifth in the SEC.
