Listen: Wrestler Bill Goldberg Tells Jim Ross That He Chose Georgia After Being Given A Bottle Of Wild Turkey At A Bar

Bill Goldberg's claim to fame is wrestling, but the spear-happy heavyweight also had quite the football career. Goldberg played defensive tackle at Georgia and was drafted in the 11th round of the 1990 NFL Draft by the Los Angeles Rams. He played for the Rams, Atlanta Falcons, and Carolina Panthers before being recruited by WCW.

Goldberg joined WWE announcer Jim Ross on his podcast, and much of the discussion centered on his football career. One especially enlightening note: the story of Goldberg's recruitment to Georgia. College Football Zealots' Kevin Causey wrote a brief summary:

Goldberg told Jim that his uncle, who lived in Jacksonville, suggested Georgia because he thought highly of Vince Dooley. Add in that the Georgia defense in that era was known as the “Junkyard Dawgs” and played a violent style of football. That must have been it, right? Apparently, it was a bottle of Wild Turkey that was handed to him when he was standing on top of a bar on his recruiting trip that sealed the deal. Ah, recruiting stories….
