The marquee matchup of college football’s Week 3 is Notre Dame-Georgia. In a surprise twist, ESPN and SEC Network host Paul Finebaum has picked the Irish to upset the Bulldogs!
In an appearance on The Roundtable, not only did Finebaum pick Georgia to win, he declared that nobody “in their right mind” should believe that Notre Dame can win.
Via Saturday Down South:
“I don’t know how anyone in their right mind believes Notre Dame can win this game… Georgia is one of the more complete teams in the country, Notre Dame is not. They have a good quarterback, but they have so many missing aspects…”
Finebaum took it a step further, stating that Notre Dame is “barely relevant in the conversation of college football powers.”
“…and again the Notre Dame fans want to tilt their collective nose toward the sky, and act like the world of college football revolves around them, it doesn’t. Notre Dame is barely relevant in the conversation of college football powers.”
The SEC Network host concluded that Notre Dame is simply not ready to hang with the SEC, and called them a “paper tiger.”
“I’m not overly impressed with them… What we’re going to be talking about Saturday night is Notre Dame simply wasn’t ready for this, they’re not equipped, and that’s probably why they try to dodge playing in the ACC, because they’re a paper tiger.”
Notre Dame may be the toughest non-conference opponent Georgia has in 2019. But the bettors still think the Bulldogs have the overwhelming edge.
They head into Saturday’s game as 13.5-point favorites.
Georgia will be a popular pick heading into that game. It will take a heroic effort from Brian Kelly and his players to make the doubters eat crow.
