Kentucky freshman Shaedon Sharpe has made a major decision on his basketball future. According to NBA insider Shams Charania, the talented prospect will declare for the 2022 NBA Draft.
Sharpe, out of Glendale, Ariz., was one of the top recruits in the 2021 cycle. He enrolled early at Kentucky, hoping to play a big role for John Calipari's team.
However, the talented prospect never saw the court for the Wildcats. And he never will.
Sharpe is heading to the 2022 NBA Draft. He will receive plenty of interest.
It's not too often a player ends up a lottery pick after not playing at all during his college experience. Sharpe is that talented, though. One team is going to take the risk.
John Calipari said multiple times last season he expected Sharpe to be his star in 2022-23.
"He is committed to bettering himself and our team in practice this year and being better prepared to lead us next season," Calipari said on Twitter.
Kentucky assistant Jai Lucas added that was always the plan for Sharpe.
"I think it started to get a lot of noise and stuff," Lucas said, via The Athletic. "Shaedon and his family were ready to kind of move forward and get ready to focus on the next step.
"He's a different type of shot maker you don't see every day."
Sharpe's college career is in the books.
The 6-foot-5 wing will be playing in the NBA later this year.
