Bates had 13 other competing offers, including offers from Iowa, Louisville, Vanderbilt, and West Virginia, but clearly the Wildcats left the best impression on the 6-foot-5, 230-pound high school junior.

Bates is the No. 13 ranked player nationally at the tight end position, per 247Sports.

With Bates' commitment, the Wildcats now have five commitments in their 2018 recruiting class. They have the No. 18 ranked recruiting class in the nation for 2018, and the No. 5 ranked class in the SEC, per 247Sports.

The Wildcats tallied a 7-6 record in 2016, the first time in seven years that Kentucky has boasted a winning record. Under Mark Stoops, Kentucky is a program on the rise.
