John Calipari Defends Struggling Freshman Skal Labissiere In Series Of Tweets

John Calipari's Kentucky teams have been known to feature tremendously talented freshmen, often of the "one-and-done" variety. Skal Labissiere was supposed to fill that role this season, but the 6-foot-11 Haitian product has not lived up to lofty expectations.

Labissiere did not start yesterday's game against Louisville, scoring just two points and grabbing three rebounds in 10 minutes of action. After the game, an unnamed NBA scout bashed the 19-year-old to SNY.tv's Adam Zagoria.

This afternoon, Calipari defended Labissiere, who was regarded as a potential lottery pick heading into the season.

Calipari always has his player's backs, and he has a point here. Was it too soon to anoint Labissiere the second coming earlier this year? Looks like it. But is it also too early to totally give up on the kid? We'd say so.
