Kentucky basketball missed out on a big-time recruit today, with James Wiseman's commitment decision. The No. 1 recruit in the class of 2019 will stay home and play for John Calipari's former team, Memphis.

His decision to stay him to play for Penny Hardaway is not a huge shock. Hardaway has a long established connection with the five-star seven footer.

Still, it is a player that Kentucky really wanted, and with Duke's recent dominance, some think the recruiting shine is coming off of Calipari a bit.

John Calipari seemed to back up that notion with his press conference today.

He obviously couldn't address the Wiseman decision directly, but he still managed to make his thoughts known.

Calipari went so far as to call himself "overrated" as a recruiter. From The Enquirer:

"I think I'm overrated as a recruiter. ... I want to be able to sleep at night, make sure I'm telling the truth. ... We don't get every kid; we get the ones we're supposed to get."

Most teams would sign to be as "overrated" as Calipari is in this cycle. For 2019, he has signed five-star guard Tyrese Maxey and four-star forward Dontaie Allen, and has another commitment from five-star Kahlil Whitney.

For that reason, it is hard to really feel too bad for the 'Cats here, even if they have slipped back to the pack a bit.
