John Calipari Praises Retiring SEC Commissioner Mike Slive, Says He Wouldn't Have Gotten His Last 2 Jobs Without Him

SEC commissioner Mike Slive announced today that he is retiring at the end of the 2014-15 academic year. The 74-year-old is in his 13th year as the conference's leader. He is beginning to undergo treatment for a prostate cancer that has resurfaced.

The news of Slive stepping down has saddened many, but perhaps no one more so than John Calipari. The Kentucky coach has spent time in two conferences commissioned by Slive - the SEC currently and Conference USA when he led the Memphis program.

Shortly following the news of Slive retiring, Calipari reeled off a series of tweets paying tribute to his commissioner.

Slive will surely be missed by all. The SEC will have a very tough time attempting to find a commissioner as good as their current one.
